When dining out in Canning Town, there’s something for all tastes. Visit Fatboy’s Diner at Trinity Buoy Wharf for a true American experience. Make sure you try BJ’s pie and mash on Barking Road and if you fancy a delicious Italian meal, head to Pepenero on Silvertown Way. Enjoy the stunning views over the docks at the Docklands Bar & Grill, try some delicious dim sums at China Palace or savour some tasty tapas at Tapa Tapa in ExCel.
Canning Town is not currently a top destination for shopping. However, the Westfield shopping centre in Stratford is only a few stops away on the Jubilee Line and offers more than you could need for shopping, cafés and restaurants. The iconic Greenwich market is not far away either if you’re looking for a more unique shopping experience.
There are a surprising number of green spaces in Canning Town, making it the perfect place to relax with friends or family. Canning Town Recreation Ground on Prince Regent Lane has a tennis court, a children’s play area as well as a climbing wall. Thames Barrier Park also offers a tranquil riverside promenade as well as meadows with over a hundred different types of flowers. Make sure to also visit Newham City Farm, which is home to some exotic animals such as llamas and wallabies.
The area has greatly benefitted from improved transport links, following the introduction of the Docklands Light Railway and the Jubilee Line. As a result, the area is attracting an increasing number of young professional seeking an easy commute to Central London. And with Crossrail arriving to Canning Town in 2018, the area is set to become one of the most well connected areas in London.
