A day in the life of a Trainee Sales Negotiator

What does the role of a Trainee Sales Negotiator really involve? We asked Gafar Fashola, our recent Talent Academy graduate, about his typical day at Kingsley Hamilton Estates and why he chose a career in property. Here’s what he had to say:

Why did you choose to join the Kingsley Hamilton Estates Talent Academy?

I chose to join the Talent Academy because I felt it was the right platform to start building my career. I knew that I wanted to work in the property industry and joining the Talent Academy made my transition into the sector extremely smooth. From understanding the purchasing and selling processes to providing legal advice, the training helped me develop the adequate set of skills to do my job efficiently.

Give us an overview of your day:

I aim to get to the office at least 20 minutes early so I can make the most of my morning. I usually start by checking my emails and looking at new properties that have been listed. I would then go through our database and start contacting applicants. Touching base with our clients is essential to build a good relationship and rapport with them: it is important to understand their current situation as well as their requirements. I would then arrange viewings, which hopefully would lead to offers! I particularly enjoy meeting applicants: you get to meet a lot of people from different backgrounds and no two days are ever the same!

What’s the biggest challenge that you face in your role?

To me, the hardest aspect of my role is dealing with objections, as it can be quite frustrating. However, thanks to the training that I received and the very supportive team here at Kinglsey Hamilton Estates, I know that I can always ask for advice when I am not sure about how to effectively respond to a client.

Do you have any advice to someone who would like to start a career in the property industry?

I would just say: “go for it”. Working in the property industry requires a lot of patience, tolerance and durability. But a career in property is one of most rewarding ones! Being able to truly make people’s dreams come true is priceless! Sure, it’s a hard climb, with obstacles along the way – deals sometimes fall through – but it’s definitely worth it!
