Royal Docks Area Guide
Royal Docks, East London’s booming riverside district, is home to many waterfront bars and restaurants, and even an urban beach in the summer.
Once unwanted marshland, the Royal Docks is now one of London’s hottest destinations for property investors, and is set to be the base for the UK’s next biggest business district.
From floating hotels, to award winning restaurants, the Royal Docks has plenty of amenities to explore in your spare time.
A firm favourite is the Sunborn Yacht, London’s floating hotel, restaurant, spa, and bar, located on the Royal Victoria Dock. The Oiler Bar is another slightly alternative venue in the area, offering a unique drinking experience on an ex-Royal Navy refuelling barge.
You’ll also find plenty of international dining options in the Royal Docks, including Thai, Chinese, and Lebanese – try Al Masar for truly authentic Lebanese dishes in a stunning setting. Plus in the winter, food lovers flock to Royal Victoria to sample dishes from the popular street food market.
The area is also home to the impressive Emirates Air Line. This cable car link across the River Thames allows you to take in the views of London landmarks, including Canary Wharf and the O2. This isn’t just another way to get from A to B – there are several ‘experience tickets’ on offer, including an on-board video tour and night flight experience.
A new retail centre with restaurants, bars and cafes is in the works, and is certain to add to the areas growing popularity.
Nearby, residents have Gallians Reach Shopping Park, and Westfield at Stratford City, one of the UK’s largest and most popular shopping destinations.
The iconic Greenwich market is not far away either, and is well within reach by DLR if you fancy a more unique, off the high street shopping experience.
Whilst the Docks are surrounded by around 250 acres of water, the area also boasts plenty of green space.
Visit Beckton District Park for the millennium tree trail, or head to Newham Angling Club for a spot of fishing. The 22-acre Thames Barrier Park is another popular choice, and is home to landscaped gardens, fountains, meadows, and a children’s play area.
E16 benefits from 13 DLR stations, and with Crossrail arriving to Custom House in 2018, the Royal Docks is set to become one of the most well connected areas in London.
London City Airport is just around the corner, offering quick and convenient flights to Europe and New York. Noise is reduced for residents thanks to the use of smaller aircrafts and a ban on night flights.
