What’s on: Canary Wharf |Play Me, I’m Yours

Canary Wharf is the perfect example of London’s allure as a metropolitan city. Not only does the area offer an array of the finest eating and drinking choices, but it also plays host to various programmes of music, film, theatre, dance, art, and fashion throughout the year. Being located at One Canada Square means that the Kingsley Hamilton Estates team is lucky enough to enjoy such events – the most recent being ‘Play me, I’m yours’.

Your commute or social media feed may have included recent sightings of quirky looking pianos, leaving you wondering what the fuss is about. Reminiscent of 2010’s Elephant Parade exhibition – followed by this summer’s Royal Rickshaw display – this new initiative comes as a result of British artist Luke Jerram finding inspiration in a launderette.

He explained: “I saw the same people there each weekend and yet no one talked to one another. I suddenly realised that within a city, there must be hundreds of these invisible communities, regularly spending time with one another in silence.” And so fifteen pianos – each decorated by local, national, and international artists – are now located in Canary Wharf and the surrounding area, waiting to inspire a wave of musical creativity and wholehearted fun amongst the general public.

In keeping with the theme of sharing joy, a number of pianos will be donated to local charities and community groups at the end of the project. In the meantime, however, Canary Wharf Group is encouraging people to upload their photos and videos using #PlayMeImYours to to be in with a chance of winning prizes, including Everyman Canary Wharf cinema tickets. Be quick though because the project ends on Friday 30 October!
