Going out

Located in the heart of Woodberry Down is The Naturalist. A must-visit place, you’ll find the entire community here – from those having a drink after work, to those settling down for a three-course meal. The cuisine is local, sourcing honey from Curtis Thompson (The Local Honey Man), and beers from North London breweries.

Head a little further afield, and you have Yard Sale Pizza, which is expanding its London-loved pizzas after triumph in Hackney. Or there’s Salvation in Noodles, which does what it says on the tin with delicious and authentic Vietnamese noodles. If you prefer a more energetic evening, then head to the craft beer nightclub, Five Miles. The first of its kind, it offers food alongside its 26 recording studios.

For cocktails, Ruby’s Bar is the place to go. With a choice of 14 different expertly-created blends, it’s no wonder this intimate setting is so popular. Why not head there after an evening at the Park Theatre? Supported by well-known names such as Benedict Cumberbatch and Ian McKellen, you’re certain to have a fantastic experience.

Shopping

As for retail, Finsbury Park is home to a number of one-of-a-kind experiences. These include The Peanut Vendor who bring you classy furniture and accessories at affordable prices. Then there’s Mint Vintage where you can purchase first-hand classic, but fashionable, pieces.

For home food purchasing, Harringay Local Store is the place. As you’d expect, they sell locally-produced food such as organic fruit and vegetables as well as the finest wine. And it has an added benefit – a specialist music shop out back. If you’re a cheese addict, then you have to go to La Fromagerie. Owner Patricia Michelson has published a book on the food, and there are cheese maturing cellars located in the shop.

Looking for well-known brands? They’re not far to travel to via the great public transport links. There’s the Nag’s Head Shopping Centre in Islington for stores such as Boots and Marks and Spencer, or Angel Central (a three-minute walk from the Angel tube station) for the likes of H&M, Accessorize and Monsoon.

Green spaces

Take a break and explore the variety of nature spots. And they’re close; the clue is in the name: Woodberry Down neighbours the Woodberry Wetlands. This reservoir houses wildlife such as kingfishers and reed warbles. The best part? It’s free to stroll around the area.

There’s also Spring Park, which boasts lots of greenery and lakes. Of course, there’s Finsbury Park itself, which has been a Green Flag Award Winner since 2007. You’ll not only find stunning landscape here, but a wide range of fun activities too. These include a boating lake, tennis, and picnic areas – perfect for a family day out.

Transport

Woodberry Down is ideal for a cycle. There’s the Wetlands to Wetlands Greenway route, which passes spectacular scenes such as the West and East Reservoir. Other routes are available too, meaning you can travel around the space without paying a penny.

To go further afield, you could opt for the underground. Located in Zone 2, Manor House tube station is a quick three-minute walk and the Finsbury Park stop is 15 minutes on foot. Manor House is on the Piccadilly line, and you’ll be linked up to Heathrow as well as other great London districts like Hammersmith. Finsbury Park is on the Victoria line, so you can get to the likes of King’s Cross, Oxford Circus and Covent Garden.

There are also three overground stations in close proximity: Finsbury Park, Harringay Green and Crouch Hill. And, if you wish to travel by bus, you can hop on at the nearby Woodberry Grove stop.
